At graduation ceremonies at universities and vocational schools, many women often wear kimonos called “hakama”.

Of course, not all women wear that at graduation ceremonies.

Why “hakama”??

It is said that the reason for wearing “hakama” was that it was often adopted as a uniform of a girls’ school in the Meiji era.

In the Meiji era, the rate of women going on to school at that time was low, and female students was Status.

So,their appearance was a symbol of the status of “female students” and was a longing for many girls.

From there, it seems that the culture of “graduation ceremony is a hakama” remained.
